Great Bear Reports Progress on Surprise Creek Project, Uranium City Saskatchewan

February 13, 2008
Great Bear Uranium Corp. (the "Company" or "Great Bear") is pleased to announce that it has initiated the compilation of historic data in order to prioritize targets for the 2008 exploration of the Surprise Creek Project.

The Surprise Creek Project consists of three mineral claims totalling 9,774 hectares (~24,200 acres) located in the vicinity of the past producing Uranium City Mining District of northwestern Saskatchewan. Located on the fringe of the Athabasca Basin, the Uranium City District was one of the world’s first uranium producing regions. Beginning in the early 1950s, the district produced over 65 million pounds of uranium from several open pit operations until production ceased in 1982 due to low uranium prices. With the recent resurgence of the uranium markets, the region has seen an exploration revival.

The Surprise Creek Property has been the focus of a considerable amount of historic exploration beginning in the early 1950s. The property is located in the Zemlak Domain and is underlain by rocks of the Archean Tazin Group and Aphebian Martin Formation. A steeply dipping fault between the contacts of the two groups forms graben-like structures. The geological setting of this contact has excellent potential for hosting uranium mineralization of economic value.

Historic exploration of the Surprise Creek claims by previous operators has included prospecting, mapping, geophysics, trenching and shallow diamond drilling. As a result of the work several pitchblende and uranophane uranium occurrences have been identified on the property. These occurrences are commonly associated with hematite and malachite in narrow shear zones and fractures.

In 1969, diamond drilling by Consolidated Van-Tor Resources Ltd. attempted to intersect one of these fractures and returned high grade intervals of 1.24% U3O8 over 22 feet (6.7 meters), including a sub-interval of 7.50% U3O8 over 3 feet (0.91 meters). Previous trenching done over the area also returned assays of up to 6.37% U3O8 within fractures with high radioactivity.

Great Bear is compiling the historic exploration data for the project in order to identify and prioritize exploration targets. A follow-up exploration program is planned for 2008.
